"I Got to Be a Vet for a Day!"

Curious about a career in animal care?

Meet Makai—a Youth Pathways student who turned his curiosity into confidence and took his first steps toward becoming a veterinary professional.

This student completed both blendVET 1.0 and 2.0 — and is now leveling up into the 3.0 program!

 This could be you!

Has your student already done the program? No problem!

We have three different pathways for students who may have more experience than others to expand and elevate students’ knowledge in veterinary medicine!

1.0: Expose

A program for students who haven’t had any hands-on experience in veterinary medicine.

  • VETlabs provide a glimpse into the field

  • What started as an interest can transform into a career pathway

2.0: Expand

A program for students who completed 1.0 or are in a veterinary training program (e.g., assistant, technician).

  • Learn in-depth skills in specialties not traditionally available

  • Begin planning for a post-secondary track in the veterinary industry

3.0: Elevate

A program for students who completed 2.0 to prepare for a post-secondary veterinary medicine track.

  • Meet current veterinary students and learn from their experiences

  • Develop a CV and plan for being a competitive applicant

 FAQs

  • This is a hands-on, one-day event designed for youth 11–17 years old to explore careers in veterinary medicine. Students rotate through mock veterinary stations— surgery, emergency care, large animal medicine and even dentistry! They’ll get to do common tests and techniques veterinary professionals do with animals–(don’t worry—on realistic models!) and learn directly from veterinary professionals.

    • Practice suturing a simulated wound.

    • Perform CPR compressions on a training mannequin

    • Mock surgery demo

    • Clean animal teeth

    • Meet veterinary professionals, hear real stories, and explore career pathways

    • Gear up in surgical scrubs and gloves—it’s the full experience!

  • Fair question! Students may encounter simulated blood or injury models, but everything is age-appropriate and focused on learning—not shock value. Students can opt out of any activity they’re not comfortable with.

  • Not a penny. Thanks to our sponsors, including the North American Veterinary Community (NAVC), this program (and all supplies, t-shirts, lunch, and snacks) is 100% free.

  • We’re capping registration at 75 students. After that, we’ll start a waiting list and contact you in the order registrations were received when an open spot becomes available.

  • The student program runs from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM Tuesday January 20th, 2026. Parents: we also host a special session just for you from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

  • Students must arrive by 9:00 AM and stay until 4:00 PM to get the full experience. Unfortunately, we can’t accommodate late arrivals or early departures.

  • Comfort is key! Closed-toe shoes are a must (there will be live animals). We’ll provide a blendVET® event t-shirt upon check-in to wear during the day.
